Atlantic TheatER Company NYC

ATLANTIC THEATER COMPANY is the award-winning Off-Broadway theater that produces great plays simply and truthfully by utilizing an artistic ensemble. Atlantic was founded by David Mamet and William H. Macy on the belief that the story and the intent of its writer are at the core of the creative process.  This is the basis of the Practical Aesthetics Technique.

Since its inception over 30 years ago, Atlantic has produced more than 150 plays including the Tony Award-winning production of Spring Awakening. During its history, Atlantic has garnered twelve Tony Awards®, eleven Lucille Lortel Awards, fifteen Obie Awards, and numerous off-Broadway awards and accolades. World premieres include works of celebrated artists such as Atlantic founder David Mamet, Harold Pinter, Woody Allen, Ethan Coen, Martin McDonagh, John Patrick Shanley, Adam Rapp, Jez Butterworth, Howard Korder, and Craig Lucas.

Producing great plays is only half of Atlantic’s mission.

The ATLANTIC ACTING SCHOOL has helped aspiring actors fulfill their dreams since 1983. Atlantic has the only Conservatory program in the world that offers in-depth training in Mamet and Macy’s unique and influential approach to acting: Practical Aesthetics, which grew out of a series of NYU summer workshops in Vermont. The school’s mission is to ensure that each graduate masters the essential analytical and physical disciplines of acting and to empower every student with skills necessary for success in the profession.  Atlantic Alumnae include Rose Byrne, Elizabeth Olsen, Jessica Alba, Anna Chlumsky and Matthew Fox. Distinguished guest lecturers include Glenn Close, Sam Shepard, Gore Vidal, Mary Steenburgen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Nicky Silver, Ted Danson and many more.

Atlantic is proud to be associated with Practical Aesthetics Australia.
